Copycat Tim Hortons Iced Cap Recipe

I can barely contain my excitement! Nikki has given me permission to share her Copycat Tim Hortons Ice Cap recipe with all you coffee lovers. :) I happen to be really addicted to these and plan on trying this recipe soon. She also says that she adds a bit more sugar than what is listed. And I agree with what she says:

"Thanks for writing, I think us addicts should not keep a secret like this to ourselves! lol ! "

can be made with regular coffee or decaf:
2 oz. boiling water
2 tablespoons instant coffee
2 heaping tablespoons sugar (or sugar substitute Equal)
4-6 ice cubes
1/3 cup 15% cream. (or chocolate milk...or regular milk)
Mix first 3 ingredients together to make a syrup, put into blender. Add ice cubes and blend until slushy. Add cream and blend until frothy
.

WOW... that was great! I just made it and yes that was the one!!! I added the extra sugar and it did the trick. I also used chocolate milk, (Nesquick). Thanks again!

I agree, this is great! Think of all the money I'm about to save... YAY!

I added the extra sugar, and actually thought it was too much. Next time (later today, most likely) I'll stick with the basic recipe.

Thank you so much for posting this!

Oh, and matthew... Nesquick? Genius!

Hurray! I think it will be fun to make this for friends this summer. I'm TrYING to cut back on sugar, so I might even mess around with a natural sugar replacement like honey...we'll see how it goes.

Enjoy!
Christina

PS. Matthew - that IS brilliant, like Janet already said. I always get my Iced Cap made with chocolate milk.

Oh thank you! I love ice caps! Going to be trying this for sure!

Hey guys...if any of you are trying to stay away from a lot of refined sugar, I think you could easily still make this but substitute a bit of honey instead of the white sugar. I'm going to experiment with honey and see how it turns out. :)

Thanks for the recipe. I found it close, but the taste of coffee was too strong. So I did 2 tsp, and added 10 ice cubes. And a twin sugar pac. And I can honestly say it couldn't be closer.

I tried this for the first time tonight. It IS good, but it tastes a little bitter. I used only 2 level tablespoons of coffee and a mess of Splenda to cut the bitterness!

I'm not a coffee drinker at all because of the bitterness But Timmies Iced Cap is good, this is close. I guess you could say that it's missing it's "sweetness"? If anyone has suggestions, please email me.

Thanks, Mark

Addendum: I used a couple of teaspoons of "Members Mark" Cappucino mix (from Sams Club). It's a dry powder and it made this taste better.

OK, this is good but tastes nothing like a Timmies Ice Cap. Honestly, am I doing something wrong or is buying a Timmies the only way to get the real deal. You would think Tim's would come up with a frequent flier card for us I.C. addicts!!

Again, this IS good but it doesn't compare to the real thing. = (

Don't get me wrong, this is good, but it doesn't seem to come close unless I am doing something wrong. I'm down to 1 1/2 tsp. of instant coffee, some splenda, ice, 2 tsp. nestles quick, and about 1/2 cup of cream. Thanks.

@Nikki THANK YOU SO MUCH for this recipe. I have been craving Tim Horton's coffee ever since I got back three days ago!

@Emily I just got back from Canada three days ago and I was in Buffalo, NY right before that. It's in the states, but just the ones close to Canada. Tim Horton's has got to be the most delicious coffee I have ever had. AND it beats Starbuck's coffee anyday! :)

drinking it right now! Tried to figure it out for ages haha!
yay
thanks again!

Okay.... I made this recipe as stated, substituting skim milk for the cream and using Folgers instant coffee. GROSS! I took one drink & poured it down the sink!

Next, I used my Tassimo to make a shot of Starbucks espresso (2 ounces) and followed the rest of the recipe, adding about three level tablespoons of sugar and skim milk. The result was tasty, but not exactly a Tim Horton's Iced Cap :o(

Oh well, there ARE two Timmy's within 15 minutes of me, anyway (Southwestern Ohio)!

Thanks for the recipe - it will work when I can't get to Tim Horton's, but I'm really thirsty for some blended coffee :o)

This is iced coffee, not blended, but it sounds really good and may be a starting point.

Nice try with the Timmie's Sara LOL! nothing like the real thing! There are TH all over the place here in southeastern MI ;)

For different flavors you can use International Delight creamer......mmmmmm!

I have 8 bags of the iced capp mix how much of the mix should i use?

mikey said...

Yes!! It does work with cappuccino mix too but it must be instant of course. Nestle also makes an iced Capp syrup that can be bought in reg Capp or French vanilla iced capp. It's pretty good too but I believe is only sold in Canada. Bulk barn or any bulk food store will also carry several instant coffee/Capp powders for this purpose as well. Enjoy!!

mikey said...

Try using chocolate milk opposed to white milk. Add just a dash of cream and follow the recipe you found closest to what you liked. The choc milk will cut the bitterness and the cream gives it the consistency since choc milk is made with partly skim or 1% milk. Worth a try...hope it helps!!

I tried this and the coffee taste was overpowering. I think I would try two tsp next time instead of two tablespoons. Thanks for the recipe! I'm going to keep playing around with it.

Luckily, we have so many Tim Horton's in the metro Columbus area (Ohio), that it's a breeze getting one. However, I am looking for an iced capp made with a sugar substitute so I will try out the above recipe. Hopefully, it works. Here, here...to all the hopelessly addicted Tim Horton's Iced Capp lovers! :)

I have been making my own Timmy's Iced Cap for years and years now. I freeze my leftover coffee in ice cube trays and use that. It cuts down on the prep time!

I just made this and although it was good, it wasn't very similar to an ice cap. So I hoped across the street to Tim Hortons (I live in Canada) and am now enjoying the real deal, which simply cannot compare.

I agree with comments about the coffee flavour being too strong. Next time I'll add more milk or less coffee and more ice cubes to get the texture closer to the real things.
